Dango

These are Japanese sweets, dango. It's made from glutinous rice.
The green one has a green tea fravour.
There is a proverb, Better eat dango than view blossoms (Better fill a man's belly than his eye.)
We usually eat them when we go to see cherry blossoms.
In Japan, we eat seasonal sweets. We eat this, Hanami dango and Sakuramochi, Kusamochi, Kashiwamochi etc. in spring, Minazuki and Chimaki in summer.
Dango is my favourite sweets. Please try eating when you come to Japan!

details of Inari Taisha

Inari Taisha, the head shrine of a Shitoism sect, there are deities who preside over productiveness of grain and business. They use foxes as messengers. So you can see the pair of stone guardian foxes at the gate of the shrine.
About two or three hundreds years ago, merchants spread the prayer answered. Then they used Inari for business. Now, you can see small Inari shrines wherever in Japan.
Japanese deities never reject anyone even if you had own religion, there is no need to convert to Shintoism.

I'd like to tell some inside stories...
But I know a few stories and I don't have the picture of the temple, Kinkakuji.
I'll write them some time.

Strolling Kyoto

Through a typical path in Kyoto, I walked toward Heian Shrine.

On the way to the shrine, there was a fascinating building...
It was an art museum.

Then I overcame temptation, arrived at 平安神宮, Heian Shrine.

I entered the Japanese garden.

It was fine day.

After I left the shrine, I fell into temptation.
I went to the art museum.

Then, I started to take photos again.

This is the function for the Gion festival.

I don't know where to begin...
For the meantime, I'll put some photos of Kyoto.

This is "稲荷大社InariTaisha".
I took this photo in winter about two years ago.

稲荷大社 is well known for the "千本鳥居Senbon Torii"

To explain in English is very hard for me...
